When I started training at Forward with Coach Malcolm in July of 2024, I weighed 355 lbs. By April 2025, I’m down to 263. I never aimed to look buff—I just wanted the strength to carry groceries up the stairs without asking for help. I swapped physical therapy for semi-personal training three times a week, progressing from bodyweight movements to small weights, all without next-day pain. The guidance I got from Malcom on nutrition didn’t just support my training—it helped resolve long-standing medical issues. This journey wasn’t about aesthetics; it was about reclaiming my independence, my health, and my confidence. I’m not done yet, but I’ve already come a long way.

I've been working with Jen for five years now. She's seen me through many stages of my life and has been a rock for both accountability and encouragement throughout all of it. Sadly, Jen has seen me hit my lowest with my biggest weight and most unhealthy lifestyle.

I have had the absolute pleasure of training with Sachi on and off for a long time now, but more specifically the last 12 weeks training for a powerlifting completion. her knowledge and desire for her clients to be their best and strongest version of themselves is so evident. the time and effort she puts into your training shows in the results you get when you put in the work she assigns. she is the best hype man, and biggest supporter of your goals. her team came first place at the last competition for a reason! When I was searching for a gym and a personal trainer, I wanted to find a place that welcomed people of all ages and fitness levels and, of course, could help me achieve my goals which included resistance training to improve lower back pain. I later added another goal of preparing for a hiking trip to Machu Picchu. Now, after training with Malcolm for nine months, I am markedly stronger and my back pain is mostly gone. Plus, I've experienced an unexpected benefit of improved mental health as well. In addition to being such a knowledgeable trainer, Malcolm always has a Plan B in place if, for example, I'm struggling with a certain exercise or having an off day. My interactions with other trainers have also been helpful and encouraging. My experience at Forward has been 100% positive, and I don't regret making this investment in my health. It's been one of the best things I've ever done for myself. I wish I had done it sooner.

I cannot thank the coaches at Forward enough. You have given me my running life back. For the past 21 years, I thought my running days were behind me. My body could not recover from the mileage anymore. Oh how wrong I was. Since training for the past two years at Forward, I have learned that my body was just fine, it just needed to get stronger. All of the kettlebell work of swings, turkish get-ups and other moves have built the necessary strength so I can run strong and run stable. This year I competed in a 25 kilometer trail run, the longest race I've ever run. My pacing, while not fast by comparison to my 20s and 30s, was consistent, even over climbs of up to 9.5% incline and decline. Strength truly is a skill. Thank you for teaching me some of that skill so that I can continue to participate in the sports that give me joy and be a full participant in the rest of my life. Since coming to Forward, I have not been significantly injured. This is a dramatic change from the days of training to failure in power lifting gyms and in Cross Fit where I just accepted the fact that I would always be nursing some kind of injury. At age 53, I am stronger, more stable, and have more lean mass than at any point in my life. That is amazing considering that I have been doing some form of athletic training since age 12! Thank you for creating the space and staffing it with such knowledgeable, kind and capable people. I am lucky to have found you.

I have been training at Forward with Coach Malcolm for over 6 months now. I started training with Malcolm after losing my husband suddenly and moving from another state. He helped me improve not only physically, but mentally. I found my training sessions to be therapeutic and help me cope with my grief and stress. Malcolm is extremely knowledgeable and has a passion for helping others. He was adaptable to my training after recovering from a knee surgery, making workout modifications for me. My strength and mobility has improved immensely. Malcom finds the balance between pushing his clients to challenge themselves but also making sure they’re doing so in a safe manner. I have a ways to go on my fitness journey and achieve my goals, but I have found a community with Forward Fitness, Malcolm and fellow clients.
